A developer is looking for a new location in the city to build an assisted living and memory care center, after the City Council balked at the proposed location at Southlake Boulevard and Shady Oaks.
The Council approved the request to withdraw an application to build HarborChase, a 120-unit center that was proposed on about 10 acres of low-density residential land. The project would have required rezoning to medium density, which the Council didn’t like.
“Thank you for bringing us a lovely development,” councilwoman Laura Hill said at the April 1 council meeting. “That isn't the right place for the development. We really have invested a tremendous amount into our land plan. The plan tells us where we’ve been but also where we're going.”
The location was near an office building and homes.
Developer Tom Dwyer said his team wants to be in Southlake and will begin looking for another location.
A new Westin Hotel is expected to open in Southlake by spring or summer 2016, developers said.
The City Council approved the upscale hotel along State Highway 114 just east of Gateway Church.
Plans call for 276 guest rooms, a full-service restaurant, meeting and conference space, ballroom space, a fitness center, a pool with patio, a rooftop restaurant and more.
The Westin joins an incoming Cambria Suites hotel on North Kimball Avenue just north of 114, which the Council approved earlier this year.
