A suspicious fire caused mostly smoke and water damage Sunday night to a Golden Corral restaurant in Grapevine, an official said.
“I’m not going to use the word arson,” said Darrell Brown, Grapevine’s deputy fire chief. “The fire was of a suspicious nature. Fire marshal investigators are following up on leads. If everything they look into indicates that we need to incorporate the word arson, we will at that time.”
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters responded to the commercial fire alarm at 2605 E. Grapevine Mills Circle at 10:57 p.m. Sunday, Brown said.
They found the building full of smoke and the sprinkler system activated.
“Once the smoke was cleared, they searched the building and found nobody in there,” Brown said. “The sprinkler took care of the fire.”
There was minimal fire damage throughout the restaurant, and Brown said there were more than three ignition points.
“There were different areas of fire,” he said. “It wasn’t contained to the kitchen.”
