A North Richland Hills city employee was killed Friday afternoon when the dump truck he was driving crashed on a ramp leading to southbound Northeast Loop 820 in Hurst, police said.

The man’s name was unavailable Friday evening.

The wreck was reported at 1:50 p.m., said Assistant Chief Richard Winstanley of the Hurst Police Department. The road is near Northeast Mall.

Witnesses told police that the driver lost control of the truck, and it landed on its side, spilling its contents, Winstanley said.

Mary Peters, a spokeswoman for the city, said the worker was headed for a landfill “when the vehicle rolled over.”

Traffic on the ramp was shut down until about 7:30 p.m., Winstanley said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the employee's family and coworkers,” Peters said.
