Jalen Knox was named District 14-5A football Newcomer of the Year in 2015, and with good reason.
The Timberview slot receiver/returner was a spark for the Wolves, combining for 232 yards of total offense and scoring six touchdowns, and coach James Brown said that Knox brings a lot to the team.
“Jalen brings a high level of athleticism and speed,” Brown said. “Jalen is a dynamic player who does special things with the ball in his hands. He offers us the ability to move him around and place him in positions to create mismatches.”
Brown said he would like for Knox to become more a vocal leader this coming season and said that the Timberview junior will have an expanded role on this year’s team.
Never miss a local story.
“He will be expected to be more active and involved in the development of the offense,” Brown said. “His role will be one that will allow him the opportunity to get the ball in his hands more often. He is the one returning skill kid we have coming back with full-time varsity experience.”
The Timberview football team finished fourth in district 14-5A last season and lost in the bi-district round, and Knox said it was not the season he and his teammates were hoping for.
“This past season, we did not perform as well as we were expecting to,” Knox said. “We really felt that we had much more talent than a 5-6 team. Some games we came together and played like we should have and others we didn’t. I just tried to play my role on the team and perform to the best of my abilities.”
Knox also runs track and Timberview High School and said he has some definite off season plans.
“I plan on working on my route running and getting in and out of my breaks,” Knox said. “I also want to get my footwork better.”
To repeat a playoff berth in 2016 and go further in the playoffs, Knox said Timberview will need to do a few things.
“It’s going to take dedication and leadership,” Knox said. “Just like last year we have one of the most talented teams, but if we don’t get the commitment from the team we’re going to have results similar to last year.”
