Lake Ridge ladies golf schedule set
The Lady Eagles golf team has six tournaments on the calendar for the fall season. Among the tournaments, Lake Ridge will open on Oct. 3 at Cleburne’s Golf Links. They’ll then be in the field at Timberview’s event for medalists at Glen Garden Golf Club on Oct. 10. Other events are the slate are Oct. 14 JV tourney at Arlington Bowie, the Oct. 24 Mansfield High two-day varsity tournament at Old Brickyard Golf Club and the Nov. 7 Tangle Ridge event held at Mansfield National Golf Club. The JV will also play on Oct. 27 in the Burleson Centennial event at Southern Oaks Golf Club.
“The girls have worked hard over the summer, practicing and competing in tournaments,” said head coach Jennifer Faulkner. “They are ready to pick up where they left off in the spring. We have three, top-5 returners, with Megan Erwin, being a regional qualifier.”
Summit, Legacy tennis square off Friday
Summit will travel to Legacy for a district tennis match Friday afternoon. The start time is scheduled for 3 p.m. Summit will be at home on Tuesday to take on Ennis, while Legacy will play at Timberview on Tuesday.
Timberview XC set to go
The Timberview cross country team will be on the line to start at Norbuck Park on Sept. 6.
Matthew Garza, a junior, is the Wolves’ number one boy. Coach Cinda Baer said Garza is a two-time regional qualifier and has been in the district meet’s top 10 the last two years. “He’s also one of the top swimmers and top five in class, academically,” Baer said.
The high class rankings carry over to the girls side, too. Senior Anna Cox is the number one varsity girl and is also a key Lady Wolves soccer player. “She’s ranked in the top 10 in her class,” Baer noted.
Stats don’t always tell the story
Legacy’s 54-35 win over Lovejoy did plenty to give the Broncos some first game padding of their stats. But maybe not for the defense. In the 19-point win, Legacy racked up 521 yards of offense. It helped that Kameron Session rushed for 171 yards and Sheldon Hogan passed for 161.
But they were actually outdueled in offensive output. Lovejoy amassed 596 yards and of that, only 321 was by passing. Interestingly, Lovejoy had no rusher tally more than 70 yards.
