The Lake Ridge Lady Eagles volleyball team won the Gold Division, albeit of the consolation bracket of the Northwest ISD Tournament last weekend.
Mansfield also competed in the consolation Gold Division, but was not quite as fortunate.
The Lady Eagles lost to Waco Midway and Southlake Carroll in the first day’s pool round, but beat Keller in a close three-game match, 20-25, 26-24, 25-23.
Lake Ridge came back on Day 2 and picked up wins over Dumas and Hereford to be placed in the Gold Division of the consolation brackets. The Lady Eagles then knocked off Burleson in three games and All Saints to take the title.
This week, with a nine-team district, they start the all-important district play at Ennis (Tuesday) before playing in the Arlington Tournament this weekend. They’ll host Red Oak next Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers were to play at North Crowley on Tuesday before traveling to the San Marcos Tournament. They are back at home on Sept. 2 to host Lovejoy and then travel to Ennis the following Friday.
Timberview went 1-2 on the first day with a win over Keller Central and then beat Richland and Longview but lost to Grapevine in Day 2’s afternoon session. They earned their way to the Silver Division of the consolation bracket on Day 3. The Lady Wolves lost to Midlothian, won over Birdville and then lost to Dumas to close the tournament play.
“We just have a lot of inexperience and it’s going to take a while to become more consistent and mentally tough,” said Timberview head coach Beth Wills, who had picked up her 500th career win on Aug. 15 (see related feature).
“We are committing way too many unforced errors,” Wills added.
