Mansfield hockey team drops three straight
The Mansfield JV summer hockey team lost its last game to Southlake Carroll 5-2 to run its losing streak to three in a row. The game was played June 29; the team had the July 4 weekend off from competition.
Brooks Herrod got the scoring started with a first-period goal assisted by Conner Gent, and it looked like Mansfield had the momentum when Thomas Bell took another goal less than three minutes later during a power-play on an assist from Connor Frye.
But that would be all the scoring from Mansfield, as Southlake Carroll managed one goal in the first, one in the second period and three in the third, including an empty-netter late in the game.
Mansfield goalkeeper Tra Mckinney saved 18 of 22 shots in the contest.
The loss evened up the Mansfield summer record at 3-3 with two games left to play. Mansfield is scheduled to take on Mid-Cities at 4 p.m. July at the Euless Star Center. They’ll finish up their season a week later, squaring off against Birdville at 4 p.m. on July 20 at the same site.
