Mansfield JV comes up short

The Mansfield JV hockey team came up just a bit short on Sunday night against Richardson/Rockwall JV, losing 5-4 in Euless in a shoot-out.

After trailing 1-0 late in the first period, Brooks Herrod tied it up at the 10:38 mark with a goal on assists from Nathan Starkenberg and James Boisvert to make it 1-0 heading into the second.

Richardson/Rockwall then scored two unanswered goals in the second period to make it 3-1 before Herrod cut Mansfield's deficit to one on his second goal of the night in the 13th minute of the period.

Chris Pressly earned an assist on the Herrod goal.

Richardson/Rockwall extended the lead back to two early in the third period, but Mansfield answered once again, scoring on unassisted goals from Thomas Bell and Kyle Scott to tie it up and send the game into overtime.

The Scott goal came with just five seconds left in regulation.

After a scoreless overtime, Richardson/Rockwall won in a shoot out.

Mansfield will play Southlake Carroll at 4 p.m. on Sunday in Euless.

Mansfield, Timberview well-represented on district baseball team

The Mansfield and Timberview baseball teams were well-represented on this year's all District 7-5A baseball squad, seeing a combined 16 selections named to the team.

For Mansfield, Gary Vaughan was named Coach of the Year and pitcher Reid Petty earned MVP honors.

Outfielder Aaron Funk, pitcher Kyle Laberge and short stop Justin Visitacion all earned first team honors, while third baseman Tyler Greer, DH Austin Tidwell, and outfielder Braxton Chatman were all named to the second team.

For Timberview, DH Nick Gerhard was selected to the first team, outfielder Julian Bassetto, outfielder Kegan Edwards and pitcher Michael Miller Moore earned second team honors and first baseman Peyton Burnett, third baseman Mason Miller, catcher Josh Thompson and short stop Landon Shaw were all chosen as honorable mentions.

Bassetto, Miller Moore, Shaw, Thompson and Narcisso Torres were all named to the academic first team in the district, as well.
