The Mansfield Junior Varsity hockey team moved to 3-2 on the summer season on Sunday night with a 2-1 shoot-out loss to Coppell.
While the team is currently tied for fourth place with seven points in the JV South division standings, Mansfield is definitely a force to be reckoned with in the division, winning three of its last four games heading into its Sunday night match up with the 4-1 Cowboys.
Defense was the name of the game throughout the first two periods of the game between Mansfield and Coppell, as both goalies were on point, surrendering zero goals through the second intermission.
Mansfield drew first blood in the third period, when Kyle Scott scored at the 11:43 mark of the period on assists from Connor Frye and Ian Dacy.

Coppell scored in the 14th minute to tie the game up and send it into overtime.
Neither team scored in the over time period, sending the game to a shoot-out.
In the shoot-out, Scott scored for Mansfield, but two Cowboys scored, lifting Coppell to a 2-1 victory and improving the team's record to 5-1 on the summer season.
Mansfield was out-shot 27-16 in the game against Coppell, and Courtney Weeks stopped 24 of 25 shots on goal in the game for Mansfield.
James Boisvert has been the leading scorer for the Mansfield team this summer with seven points (six goals, one assist), while Nicholas Cyprian and Scott have five points a piece on the season.
Mansfield has a -3 goal differential on the summer season, but has out-scored opponents 11-6 in its last three games.
The Mansfield JV team will play its next game at 4 p.m. on June 22 when it travels to Euless to take on the 1-5 Richardson/Rockwall junior varsity team at the Euless Star Center.
