Mansfield hockey wins in shoot-out
The Mansfield junior varsity hockey team improved to 1-1 for the summer season with a 4-3 shoot-out victory over the Birdville JV team at a the Euless Green Arena on Sunday.
Mansfield struck first in the game when James Boisvert earned an unassisted goal at the 5:03 mark of the first period to put the JV squad up by one.
Birdville tied it up just 37 seconds later, but Mansfield answered with a goal from Brooks Herrod just under seven minutes into the game.

Kyle Scott picked up the assist on the Herrod goal, and Mansfield led 2-1 heading into the second.
Birdville again tied it up, this time on a power-play goal early in the second period, and again, Mansfield untied it, when Thomas Bell scored on assists from Luke Montez and Conner Gent.
The JV team led 3-2 heading into the third period, when Birdville scored in the 10th minute to tie the game back up and send it to overtime.
After a scoreless overtime period, Boisvert and Scott scored for Mansfield in the shoot-out to get the victory for the JV team.
Mansfield will play Flower Mound Marcus at 6:30 p.m. on May 18 at the Farmers Branch Gainey arena.
Mansfield athletes earn medals at state competition
The Summit track and field team picked some hardware at this year's Class 4A state track and field meet.
Summit's Briona Oliver finished third overall in the long jump competition with a jump of 18-08.25 to capture a bronze medal.
Teammate Ivy Walker also brought home a bronze medal with a mark of 39-03.5 in the triple jump competition.
Timberview's Kelsey Johnson brought home the top prize, earning a state championship in the girls long jump in the 5A competition with a mark of 19-07.50.
