Mansfield ISD players take all-district girls basketball honors

Terriell Bradley was named the District 7-5A Offensive Player of the Year while Chennedy Carter of Mansfield was tagged as Newcomer of the Year.

In addition, first team honors went to Ja’Lea Bennett, Timberview, and Dayo Olabode, Timberview.

Named to the district’s second team was Megan Badejo, Timberview.

Mansfield grad playing in Division II Elite 8

Mansfield High alumnus Elliott Dean will be playing in the NCAA Division II Elite 8 basketball tournament this week. Dean is a member of the Tuskegee College squad who recently won the SIAC Conference title and then won the South Region in the national tournament. In the South Region championship game, Elliott scored 15 points.

Dean was the District Player of the Year in 2010, said Mansfield head basketball coach Jason Speakes. “He is a high-character guy who’s got a diligent work ethic,” Speakes said. “He’s found a niche at Tuskegee and we’re all proud of what he’s done and hopefully he can go win a national title.”

Dean, a 6-5 point guard, is a junior and had previously played at Weatherford College.

Mansfield All-Stars take tourney title

The Mansfield All-Star fifth-grade boys took the championship trophy at the Tri-County All-Star Basketball Tournament held in Cleburne from Feb. 28 – March 1. The All-Star team is comprised of two players from each of the local league teams. Mansfield won the title, beating teams from Johnson and Tarrant Counties. The All-Stars also took second place at a subsequent all-star tournament played the following week in Aledo.

The team includes Chris Chinchilla, Hasani Little, Daniel Orona, Cameron Whatley, Daniel Maktabi, Chase Williams, Mackie Cooper, Chrisdon Morgan and Jarrail Stevens and is coached by Ryan Chinchilla.

Summit baseball on strong district start

The Summit baseball team went to 4-0 in District 15-4A after beating Ennis on Friday, 3-2. Ross Roark and Creighton Eldridge both had doubles for the Jaguars.

Mansfield splits week’s games

The Tigers baseball team lost to Duncanville, 8-7, on Tuesday but bounced back on Friday to collect a win over Grand Prairie in a decisive 8-0 win. Mansfield enters this week with a 3-1 district record.

Timberview softball stays perfect

The Lady Wolves pushed their overall mark to 12-0 and 7-0 in district play last week. Timberview’s softball team posted wins over South Grand Prairie and Cedar Hill. They’ll take on Midlothian and Duncanville this week.

Legacy drops first district game

The Legacy softball team lost to Ennis, 8-0 on Friday for the Lady Broncos’ first district loss of the season. Their record is now 5-1 and will take on Seguin and Summit this week.
