Mansfield hockey starts strong, comes up short

The Mansfield Varsity hockey team took a 1-0 lead to start their game against Highland Park last Thursday night, but ended up losing 8-1 at the Euless Green Arena.

Cameron Bickford got things going for the varsity team, scoring at the 4:21 mark of the first period.

Ryan Kenney earned the assist on the Bickford goal for Mansfield.

Highland Park then scored eight unanswered goals and out-shot Mansfield 49-9 along the way.

Three of the Scots goals were on the power play.

Mansfield will Arlington/Midlothian at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Euless Green Arena.

Summit girls pick up big wins in Newsom tourney

The Summit girls soccer teams was impressive in the Vernon Newsom Classic last weekend, scoring 18 goals between two of its games.

The Lady Jaguars defeated 5A Lancaster 12-0 on Thursday and followed it up with a 6-0 victory over another 5A program in DeSoto on Friday.

Summit improved to 4-1-1 on the season with the victory.

The Lady Jags played L.D. Bell on Tuesday after the press deadline and will open district play when they travel to Everman at 6 p.m. next Tuesday.

Mansfield boys defeat Lamar

The Mansfield boys soccer team defeated Arlington Lamar on Saturday by a score of 2-1 in the Arlington Martin Invitational to improve to 3-1 on the regular season.

Mansfield will take part in the Richardson Berkner Ice Bowl this weekend, and will open up tournament play with Richardson at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Mansfield girls defeat Midlothian, remain unbeaten on season

The Mansfield girls soccer team defeated Midlothian by a score of 1-0 in the Vernon Newsom Classic on Saturday to move to 5-0-1 on the season.

Marcy Schengber scored the Lady Tigers’ goal in the game against Midlothian.

Mansfield defeated Killeen Harker Heights, Duncanville, and Midlothian and tied Weatherford in tournament competition.

Mansfield will compete in the Richardson Berkner Ice Bowl this weekend and will open with Terrell at 8:10 p.m. on Thursday at Richardson Pearce High School.

Timberview boys blank Wilmer-Hutchins

The Timberview boys soccer team improved to 2-3 on the season on Friday with a 3-0 victory over Wilmer-Hutchins in the West Mesquite Invitational.

The Wolves will open up district at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with Legacy at Legacy High School.

Lake Ridge boys defeat Lamar

The Lake Ridge boys soccer team defeated Arlington Lamar 1-0 on Friday in the Arlington Martin Invitational to improve to 4-1-1 on the regular season.

Lake Ridge will travel to DeSoto at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
