Quick start lifts Lake Ridge
The Lake Ridge football team opened the season with a victory on Friday night, defeating Cleburne by a score of 52-26 after jumping out to a 46-6 lead early in the second quarter.
Duke Carter had a phenomenal night for the Eagles, rushing for 162 yards and four touchdowns, while Joseph Rowe added 117 yards rushing and two more touchdowns.
Quarterback Jett Duffey also scored on a 12-yard run for Lake Ridge in the game, and the Eagles defense came up big as well, returning a fumble for a touchdown.
Lake Ridge will take on Keller Fossil Ridge at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Keller ISD Athletic Complex.
Timberview gives Ennis all it can handle
Things got off to a good start for the Timberview football team on Friday night at Ennis, but a strong rally from the Lions between the second and third quarters earned them a 33-28 victory over the Wolves.
Devin William connected with Quincy McGriff and Jaylin Loftis on passes of 74 yards and 18 yards respectively to get things started for the Wolves, and a seven-yard touchdown run from Jalen Knox made it 21-0 Timberview at the end of one.
Ennis scored four unanswered touchdowns between the second and third quarters to make it 27-21 before Williams scored on a 16-yard keeper to regain the lead for Timberview early in the fourth quarter.
Ennis scored again late to pull out the victory.
According to Dave Campbell's Texas Football, Ennis was ranked number three in the state and Timberview was ranked seventh in the state coming into the game.
Timberview will host Midlothian at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Newsom Stadium.
Legacy comes up short against Lovejoy
The Legacy football team led by one point at the end of the third quarter on Friday night, but came up just short, losing 49-36 to Lovejoy.
Kendall Catalon rushed for 177 yards and a touchdown and passed for two touchdowns and 164 yards in the game to lead the way for the Broncos on offense.
John Rogan and Trenton McDonald both caught touchdown passes in the game, and Grant Johnson rushed for two touchdowns as well.
Legacy will play at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Crowley.
