Common Ground Network’s Feed The Kid For Summer program has just completed the 10th summer of serving the MISD students who are on U.S. Government Free and Reduced Meal Plan during the school year and have no access to nutritious food during the summer. This program provides the kids with nutritious food during the summer months that they can prepare themselves while their parents are away at work.
This year our volunteers prepared over 9,900 food bags with each one containing a week’s supply of food for each child. This was made possible by an army of compassionate Mansfield volunteers numbering over 200 people each week. The program would not exist without donors who contributed over $70,000 in cash and $10,000 of food to make this incredible program possible. We are grateful for the generosity of the Mansfield community and organizations for their support the last 10 years. The Feed the Kids program will continue on weekends throughout the school year by working closely with the counselors and nurses of each school to assure that no child in our district goes to school hungry. Instead they will be fueled with proper nutrients and ready to learn.
There are so many people to thank for their part in making this year’s summer program a success. First, we would like to recognize and thank the Mansfield area food pantries that distributed these bags to the families each week. Common Ground’s partnership with these pantries makes this program a success.
There are also hundreds of donors who gave gifts that we would like to recognize and thank for their monetary and food donations. Each donation, whether large or small, has been very much needed and appreciated. Below is a list of our major donations this summer: Mansfield Cares, Mansfield Women’s Club, Pickled Mansfield Society (Pickle Queens), Lockheed Martin, Kiwanis Club of Mansfield, Delaware North (Globe Life Park), Mansfield Area Dentists, Mansfield Chamber of Commerce Women’s Division, The Church on Rush Creek, Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church, Taylor Davis, Pantego’s Lion’s Foundation, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Harvesting International Ministries, Republic Service Company and Key Clubs from all five MISD high schools.
Distribution Pantries: Living Word Outreach, St. Jude Catholic Church, Wesley Mission Center, Bethlehem Baptist Church, Lighthouse for Nations, Harvesting International Ministries, Greater New Life Baptist Church, CAP and East Broad Street Outreach.
