Seniors need active living options

Thank you for the weekly Mansfield News-Mirror. As a senior here in Mansfield, my friends and I have a concern and need that I thought your paper could address and see what kind of response you get.

Our age group is in a gap, many of us being widows where we are not ready for assisted living and want to downsize from our homes, but do not want apartment living. The only senior housing in Mansfield is apartment living, like Watercrest and is very expensive ranging from $1500 to $3,000 a month. So many of our surrounding communities have recognized the need, like Burleson, Fort Worth and Southlake, but Mansfield has no active adult housing that is not apartment living or affordable. Many from my church feel like I do, that I would love to sell my home and move into maybe a gated community of 55-plus that offers one-story villa or duplexes that appeal to active adults. We all love Mansfield and what Mansfield has to offer, but Mansfield is not meeting the needs of their seniors.

Do you think if we bring the need out into the open and see the response or maybe get the attention of a developer out there, maybe the seniors of Mansfield will speak out?

Thank you for your attention and response.
