An aide at a Mansfield high school was arrested Friday afternoon on suspicion of an improper relationship between an educator and student and sexual assault of a child.

Kashann Simmons, 40, who has been an alternative classroom aide and volunteer coach at Mansfield Timberview High School since September 2011, was arrested in the driveway of his Mansfield home at approximately 4:30 p.m. by Mansfield ISD police.

He was processed by the district police before being turned over to the Mansfield Jail, where he was held on $30,000 bail.

District police were alerted by the high school’s administration of the alleged relationship between Simmons and the female student, said Lt. Greg Minter, who declined to give the student’s age.

Simmons was placed on administrative leave March 20 and resigned March 25, said district spokesperson Richie Escovedo.

“Human resources, the administration and district police moved quickly to address it,” Escovedo said. “We are completely shocked and saddened by this.”

Timberview Principal Derrell Douglass will coordinate any communication with the school’s staff and students, Escovedo said.
