Mansfield Police are working to identify human skeletal remains found Saturday.
Police responded to a call at 5 p.m. Saturday of human skeletal remains found at the 800 block of South Mitchell Road.
Police believe the remains have been exposed for many years, according to a press release sent out by the police department.
Sonia Brannen, Mansfield Police public information officer, said the caller was walking on the property and saw the remains.
Never miss a local story.
“I believe they were just in plain view,” she said.
The 800 block of South Mitchell Road is a rural part of Mansfield with a few homes and large open fields.
The Mansfield Police Department is working with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine characteristics of the deceased person including age, sex and race.
Officials expect the testing could take weeks or months.
Mansfield police said they will continue to pursue any leads and the investigation is on going.
