Piano students of Mickey Legg performed their annual spring recital May 22.
As well as playing three solos, Kaley Carrubba played “Morning Has Broken” accompanied by Legg. Maya Justice played four solos, which included two jazz pieces “In My Red Convertible" and “New Orleans Celebration.” Callie Limpert played “Fur Elise” by Beethoven and “The Dancing Lesson” by Sartorio, concluding with two contemporary pieces. Rhea Maheshwari performed the duet “Beethoven's Boogie” with Legg, “Spring” by Vivaldi, and three popular pieces. Gabi Senato played the “Wade in the Water” duet and the “Bell Carol” along with three contemporary pieces. Hannah Withers performed four pieces including the “Copycat” duet and “Star Wars.” Legg concluded the program with Muzio Clementi's Sonatina 3, Opus 36.
National Piano Guild certificates, report cards and silver pins were awarded to Callie Limpert, Kaley Carrubba and Rhea Maheshwari for each playing a seven-piece memorized program. Mary Ann Fritz of Fort Worth was the guild judge. She is a piano professor at Dallas Baptist University. Kaley Carrubba also received a gold theory medal awarded by the Texas Music Teachers Association and a certificate from the Federated Music Teachers for a Superior Plus rating at the Gold Cup Festival held in Fort Worth.
In addition to Legg, Dee Walraven, Harriet Motter, Karen Shugart and Jo Anne Thomson are piano teachers who entered students in the Guild National auditions. These auditions were held at Legg's studio, where 50 students played on a Steinway grand piano and a Tokai upright piano.
