Identity theft is a very real threat. It can happen in a variety of ways, and from many different sources. One source that criminals use to get information on their victims comes in the mailbox.
Billing statements, IRS documents, medical statements and other forms of personal data come through the mail. In addition, we collect documents with sensitive, personal information throughout our lives.
For many years now, it has been recommended that these documents be shredded before being thrown away. Shredding these documents reduces the chance that a criminal can use any of the information to commit crimes, steal our money or our identity.
Often times, a large amount of documents are produced in the disposition of an estate or during a move. The amount of documents produced is often too great to handle with a personal shredder.

The city is providing free shredding services for Mansfield residents from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. April 12 at City Hall, 1200 E. Broad St.
Because there is limited space, each household can bring up to five bags/boxes. This service is provided for residents only; businesses are not allowed to participate.
