The Community Storehouse, which has served the children of the Keller and Northwest school districts fore more than 30 years, is opening a new resale shop in Old Town Keller.
The City Council recently approved a plan for the Storehouse’s new retail shop and it also reviewed — but did not approve — a site plan for a retail development on the other end of Main Street.
The Community Storehouse will open at 300 North Main St. in Old Town after being approved at the June 3 city council meeting. The storehouse will have locations at both Keller-Hicks Road in north Fort Worth and nearby into a bigger venue near Dollar General in Keller. The new facility will function similarly to the Fort Worth location in selling used goods but will not take donations
David Klein, a member of the Community Storehouse board, said the new location will help raise awareness for the organization’s cause.
“The new store will help raise its profile within the community and help more people,” he said. “We look for ways to give back to the communities in which we live.”
Community Storehouse serves children and their families in the Keller and Northwest school area by providing clothing and food, medical assistance and different education programs.
The council also reviewed a site plan for TCG Keller, a 6,675 square foot retail building at 104 South Main St. The building will host multiple retail stores and restaurants as well as a drive-through..
Engineers for the facility worked over the past few months designing a site plan and presented some changes to the council, ClayMoore engineer Matt Moore said.
Among some site changes included potted plants instead of the city’s required foundation planting, relocated parking and an additional monument sign.
Council member Bill Dodge said he was grateful that the business is coming to Keller, but that he thinks the building is too large for the property.
The request ended with a 3-3 vote, community development director Tom Elgin said. The site plan will be reconsidered at the June 17 city council meeting in the same form and may include “floor amendments” amending the site plan, he said.
