Keller ranks in Best Cities for Homeownership study

Study puts Keller at No. 13 out of 20 Texas cities evaluated.

Once again, Keller has found its way on a good-place-to-live list —’s Best Cities for Homeownership in Texas.

The city is No. 13 on the list of 20 Texas cities evaluated based on home availability, monthly homeowner cost, median monthly household income, cost as percentage of income and population growth.

In 2009, Keller was named the seventh in Money magazine’s top 100 “Best Places to Live” of small U.S. towns.

Maggie Clark, a data analyst at the San Francisco-based, says the website helps residents and homeowners make financial decisions through comprehensive research and surveys.

“It’s winter time and people aren’t moving much, but we wanted to do the research now to prepare users for moves in the spring and summer,” she said.

Clark said Keller placed high in the buyer availability category but did not make the overall top 10 because of its 6.3 percent growth rate, which was lower than other cities.

Little Elm in Denton County was No. 1 on the list, followed by Kyle and Leander near Austin. Other Tarrant County cities on the list were Mansfield (No. 9), Burleson (No. 17) and Southlake (No. 18).

Keller city spokeswoman Rachel Reynolds said the city had 268 single-family building permits issued in 2013, with the Hidden Lakes, Creekview, Marshall Ridge and Silverleaf among the subdivisions with the most new homes.

Although Keller’s growth rate was fairly low compared to other cities on the list, Clark said the rest of the country isn’t growing like Texas.

“What we saw in the survey of growth rate of communities was overall pretty remarkable,” Clark said. “Population growth is an indicator that communities can support newcomers and is a healthy, good place to settle.”
