Trophy Club giving last warnings before warrant roundup kicks off March 1

The town will be joining agencies across the state to locate persons with outstanding arrest warrants.

Beginning March 1, agencies across the state will be working to locate people with outstanding arrest warrants as part of an annual roundup program.

Officers will begin visiting homes, neighborhoods and places of work to arrest people on the warrant list who have not settled their debt.

Trophy Club is giving one last warning to anyone with unpaid citations and warrants. The town’s municipal court is offering an amnesty program through Feb. 28.

According to Trophy Club spokeswoman April M. Reiling, calls were placed on Feb. 17 and will be placed again on Feb. 22 through the town’s notification system to people with outstanding warrants. Warnings are also being posted on the town’s three marquees, and are also appearing via Facebook, Twitter, the TC Exchange and email.

According to a Reiling, defendants will not be arrested during the amnesty period when appearing at the court for the purpose of resolving their cases.

Persons who resolve outstanding warrants within the amnesty period will be offered two options.

The first is that a person may enter a plea of guilty or no contest and pay outstanding fines in full. This option will result in the violation being reported to the state as a conviction on his or her driving record.

If this option is elected, all outstanding charges for a failure to appear charge will be dismissed.

In the second option, the person may enter a plea of guilty or no contest and request deferred disposition to prevent the violation from being reported as a conviction on his or her driving record.

For this option, the person must pay all deferral fees in full, must enter a plea of guilty or no contest for all outstanding failure to appear charges and must pay all associated fines.
