Arts Council Northeast welcomes 2014 board members

Arts Council Northeast brings art programs to area communities.

Arts Council Northeast has inducted its board members for the 2014 year.

The council’s new board members were elected the first meeting in December and positions took effect in January.

The council is dedicated to bringing artistic, cultural and educational opportunities through different arts programs in the area, council President Lee Koch said. The council brings free concerts to the area in its MasterWorks series, hosts classes on a variety of arts at its location in Bedford, offers grants to different arts organizations in the area and promotes the arts to citizens.

Koch said the council is releasing and mailing brochures for the coming year during the week of Feb. 10. The council meets the first Wednesday of every month.

Upcoming events will include a fundraising event May 3 at Lonestar Park, a weeklong, summer arts college art camp for kids ages 6 to 12 in Keller featuring crafts, theater productions and more and a grants awards luncheon March 21 at Tarrant County College Northeast Campus.

A grant committee is separate from the executive board and awards grants to local nonprofit arts organizations. Some grant recipients this year will include Community Storehouse in Keller for its reading improvement and art awareness program, city of Keller public arts program for bringing the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and the Metro Praise Youth Orchestra concert, Koch said.

A list of summer concerts is available on the council’s website. Koch said she and other members are continuing to work on getting the word out about the council and getting citizens involved in its programs.

“We’ve been around since 1975,” Koch said. “I’m always amazed people don’t know we're around, so we’re trying to alleviate that situation with our fantastic marketing team who has been doing a great job keeping everyone updated.”
