Honoring an American hero
On Saturday Nov. 30, I along with over 100 Patriot Guard Riders were involved in the Funeral procession for Staff Sgt. Alex Anthony Viola, USMC of Keller who was killed in action defending our freedom.
As the procession left the church where the service took place, we turned onto North Tarrant Parkway in Keller just west of Hwy. 377 and I was humbled and shocked up by the outpouring of support from the community as hundreds stood with American flags flying in support of Staff Sgt. Viola and his family.
For at least four miles, North Tarrant Parkway was filled with citizens, scouts, and veterans honoring this American hero and his family for the ultimate sacrifice that was paid. Cars pulled over, people got out and placed their hands over their hearts in honor of this brave young man.
We have lost one of our bravest young men while helping to defend against terrorism and tyranny in a foreign land. I want to personally thank my fellow citizens and Patriots from Keller for their outpouring of support for our young men and women who currently serve our great nation and those who have served in the past.
During this upcoming holiday season, we all need to take a moment to remember all of our sons and daughters in the military as they serve away from home. Thank you again Keller for your support.
Carlton Emmons, Ride Captain, North Texas Patriot Guard Riders
