The season came to an end for the Colleyville Heritage softball team last week following a bi-district playoff series loss to Hebron, but coach Allison Conaway said that she is proud of what her team accomplished and said that her team did make some history.

The Lady Panthers lost to Hebron in two straight games by scores of 5-4 and 13-2 against an opponent that Conaway said she knew would be a tough one for Colleyville Heritage.

“It was disappointing,” Conaway said. “There was a lot of pressure on us, and we really rose to the occasion on Thursday night, and I kind of thought we had the game won, and then had some missed opportunities and let them back into the game. We ended up losing by one.

“Friday night, we were just flat. We came out flat and just did not play well.”

Conaway said that she hopes her players take away a couple of things from the series with Hebron.

“I hope that they realize that you have to be mentally tough,” Conaway said. “You have to show up every play of every game, and you have to be able to handle pressure better than what we did.”

The Lady Panthers finished up the regular season with an overall record of 17-11, and Conaway said she is pretty satisfied with how things unfolded for her team this year.

“From what I understand, going undefeated in district is something we haven't done in the program's history, so that's always great,” Conaway said. “But, for me, I am never satisfied, and I guess that is just me as a coach. I always want to be better and do more and achieve as much as we possibly can.”

Conaway said that things are shaping up pretty well for next year, but said there will be some pretty big shoes to fill at the same time.

“We have a our two starting pitchers coming back, and we have three sophomores that contributed a lot this year,” Conaway said.

“But it's going to be tough to replace my seniors, for sure. I am losing five seniors and starter, and they have been a big part of what we've done this year.”
