Spring break was a good opportunity for the Carroll boys soccer team to rest up and prepare for the final two games of district competition, and coach Greg Oglesby said that he believes his team is headed in the right direction.
The Dragons played Keller Fossil Ridge on Tuesday night after the press deadline and will square off with Haltom at 7 p.m. on Friday in Southlake. See www.dfwvarsity.com for results.
“With the Haltom game, the playoffs may hinge on that, depending on how other teams do and we do on Tuesday,” Oglesby said last weekend. “That's going to be a huge game for us. I like the way we played against them last time. We were up 1-0 and led most of the game and just kind of had a let down on a free kick and corner kick, and they wound up tying us. But I like the way we match up with them.”
Oglesby said that spring break was an opportunity for his Dragons to do a little work in practice, which may could make Carroll, which has been picking up steam as of late, that much more formidable in the postseason.
“We took some time off and did a little training,” Oglesby said. “We had a few nicks and dings here and there, but nothing serious. We should have everyone at full strength from here on.”
Oglesby did said that if he had his choice, however, he would not have taken the time away.
“Personally, I would rather continue to play to get into a good rhythm,” Oglesby said. “It's tough to take a week off. You don't really know how you are going to play. But the good news is that everybody is in the same situation.”
Oglesby said he does believe his team is playing well as the postseason draws near and said that he believes it will carry his team over into the playoffs.
“We're in a good place right now,” Oglesby said. “In terms of standings, I would already like to have a playoff spot clinched, but I like our chances going into our final games. I like the way we are playing, it was a great win for us against Keller [before spring break].
“We showed a lot of character. We were ahead, and then they came back and tied it. We found a way to get that winning goal with about 10 minutes left in the game. Hopefully, we can build on that.”
