The Grapevine-Colleyville school district is reorganizing its athletics department. On Monday, the district posted an opening for the newly-created executive director of athletics position.
District spokesperson Megan Overman said the district wants its new executive to provide more support for student-athletes and coaches. Current athletic director Tim Ford will remain a director in the department, Overman said. However, his job duties and assignments will change once the new director is in place. There is hope that a finalist will be presented to the school board at its Jan. 30 meeting.
Ford was named the district’s athletic director in 2007. At this point, it’s unknown if Ford will be considered for the new role.
“He will continue to play an integral role in our athletic department,” Overman said.
Meanwhile, there had been speculation in coaching circles about Grapevine head football coach Dave Henigan’s future because of consecutive difficult seasons. After taking the Mustangs to the playoffs in 2011, Grapevine fell off to 3-7 in 2012 and 1-9 in 2013. However, Overman said Henigan has not been reassigned.
