Former state Sen. Wendy Davis has a new title: grandmother.
Davis, D-Fort Worth, announced the birth of her granddaughter on Facebook.
“Ellis Tate Davis-Erdel (my first grandchild!) arrived on Friday the 29th of April,” the 52-year-old Davis posted online. “She has stolen my heart completely!!!”
Davis, a former Fort Worth city councilwoman and 2014 Democratic gubernatorial nominee, noted something extra special about the birthday of her granddaughter, born to daughter Amber Davis.
“She shares a birthday with Willie Nelson,” Davis wrote.
Davis is a longtime fan of Nelson, the legendary Texas musician who performed at a 2014 fundraiser for her, when she was for governor.
Davis said she’s “in awe of what an amazing mother my daughter Amber has already become. Such a blessing!”
Wendy Davis has long talked about her life story, growing up with a single mother and how she, by age 19, was a divorced single mother working two jobs and raising her child as they lived in a trailer park. She has talked about struggling to pay the bills, even as she was determined to succeed and create a better life for her children.
