Tarrant County lawyers read Declaration of Independence at courthouse

Lawyers gathered at courthouses statewide to read the document that signaled the separation of the United States from Great Britain

A delegation of 11 local attorneys who represent the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association stood on an interior stairway at the Tim Curry Justice Center on Thursday and read the Declaration of Independence.

It is the third reading in three years, said Shawn Paschall, a former member of the association’s board.

Last year, lawyers at 50 courthouses read the declaration aloud, and this year, lawyers representing 68 Texas cities had signed up to lead readings. Attorneys from seven cities nationwide and from Paris and Cancun, Mexico, also signed up for the reading Thursday, according to the association’s website.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to see what the nation was born from,” Paschall said.
