A Fort Worth man was killed late Tuesday when he was hit by a pickup while walking away from his disabled vehicle on Northeast Loop 820 in North Richland Hills, police said.

The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office identified the man as Vernon Wilson, 48, who died at the scene in the 7300 block of Northeast Loop 820.

Officers were called to the location at 10:50 p.m., said Investigator Keith Bauman, a police spokesman.

Wilson was struck by a westbound 2000 Mazda pickup driven by a 56-year-old woman from Fort Worth, Bauman said in a news release. Wilson was walking in the roadway as the Mazda entered the freeway.

“It appears Mr. Wilson’s vehicle had broken down in the area,” Bauman said.

The pickup driver was not injured. She remained at the scene and has been cooperating with police.

The investigation continued Wednesday, Bauman said. Anyone with information about the wreck is asked to call police at 817-427-7000.
