Trustees have called a special meeting for Monday with one “action item” on the agenda: Superintendent Walter Dansby’s contract.
The brief agenda was posted Friday evening on the Fort Worth school district’s website. The meeting will be at 5 p.m. at the school board complex, 2903 Shotts St.
The agenda calls for a closed session to deliberate on the contract. By law, the board must take action in public on any changes in the contract terms.
Trustees are not united in their assessment of Dansby’s leadership of the 83,000-student district.
Board President Christene Moss has said that some trustees support Dansby but that “there are some issues that we are trying to work those out.” She wouldn’t elaborate.
Dansby’s contract makes him eligible for an annual $10,000 bonus for satisfactory performance. He received one last year. This year, the board has been silent on the matter.
The board is not expected to vote to extend his contract, which expires in 2016, Moss has said.
The superintendent receives an annual evaluation. The board completed part of the evaluation March 25, Moss has said. Trustees are expected to set goals for him in coming weeks, she has said.
Moss could not be reached for comment Friday night.
Dansby, 63, has not responded to requests for comment on his evaluation. He has listed passage of a $490 million bond package as one of his major achievements. Many civic and church leaders have lauded his leadership.
With a base pay of $338,817.60, excluding fringe and health benefits, he is one of the highest-paid superintendents in the state and among the highest-paid public officials in Tarrant County.
