Jennifer Lunow, 35, of Saginaw died Saturday night when the small plane piloted by her husband, Danny Lunow, 40, crashed a half-mile short of the Denton Municipal Airport, an official said.

Lunow and the couple’s 5-year-old daughter were taken to Denton Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, said the official, Department of Public Safety Sgt. Lonny Haschel.

The plane crashed on Masch Branch Road about a half-mile from Denton Municipal Airport, an FAA official said.

“He was en route from Arkansas to Fort Worth Hicks,” said FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford. “He called the Denton tower and said he had engine trouble.”

Masch Branch Road lines up with the Denton airport’s runway. Strong winds may have shortened the plane’s gliding distance and forced it to crash into trees alongside the road, Lunsford said.

FAA records indicated the plane was owned by N-Ovation Systems of Sapulpa, Okla. Officials with N-Ovation could not be reached Monday morning.
