A man escaped with only minor injuries Thursday afternoon after the pickup truck he was driving was smashed by a passenger train, officials said.
The man was treated and released at the accident scene, said Matt Zavadsky, spokesman for MedStar.
No one was hurt on the westbound train operated by the Trinity Railway Express, Zavadsky said.
Ambulance crews were summoned around 4:20 p.m. to the wreck in the 1100 block of Haltom Road, which is at the Haltom Road crossing in Fort Worth.
Never miss a local story.
The train, which was carrying commuters from Dallas, had just left the Richland Hills station and was expected to stop next at the Intermodal Transportation Center in downtown Fort Worth, said Joan Hunter, spokeswoman for the TRE.
Hunter said the pickup truck did go through the crossing gates and was on the tracks, and the train crew could not stop the wreck from happening.
Train service in the area was stopped while authorities investigated the crash, but Hunter said trains were back in service at about 5:20 p.m. Delays were expected to be about 30 minutes, she added.
