A man who was shot multiple times Monday night was taken to a hospital in critical condition, officials reported.

The shooting occurred about 8 p.m. in the 4000 block of Mansfield Highway, said Forest Hill Police Chief Dan Dennis.

An officer in a northbound patrol car noticed a man in his late 20s stumbling in the highway near a Valero station, Dennis said. The officer stopped to help the man, who said he had been shot, Dennis said.

An ambulance was summoned, which took the man to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

The man appeared to be in critical condition, said Matt Zavadsky, a MedStar spokesman.

Dennis said officers followed a blood trail from where the man was found to the back of a car wash. Monday night, officers were searching for evidence beneath the lights of two large firetrucks.

No arrests had been reported by late Monday
