A day care in southwest Fort Worth caught fire Monday afternoon, but the children and employees inside were safely evacuated and no one was injured, officials said.
Firefighters responded to the two-alarm blaze about 1:40 p.m. at the Playhouse Academy in the 2900 block of Riverglen Drive, off South Hulen Street.
When they arrived, eight employees and 26 children had already evacuated the building, said Lt. Kyle Clay, Fire Department spokesman.
Firefighters got the fire under control about 2:45 p.m. Clay said the damage was likely “substantial” inside the day care.
“The fire started in the basement and we ended up with fire coming through the roof,” Clay said. “It moved through there pretty well.”
