A Jeep Cherokee that was apparently “off-roading” on train tracks Saturday afternoon was struck by a Trinity Railway Express train.
No one was in the Cherokee, which had been abandoned when it became stuck on the tracks just west of Mosier Valley Road in far east Fort Worth.
The crash occurred about 3:15 p.m., said Laura Hanna, a spokeswoman for the Fort Worth Transportation Authority, which operates the TRE.
Trespassing in the railroad right-of-way is illegal and the driver of the Cherokee is expected to receive a citation, Hanna said.
“Driving on the tracks is especially prohibited and very dangerous,” she said.
Hanna said one passenger reported having a headache and was transported by ambulance and that there was a brief delay in service.
