A Chicago-area-based wholesaler of imprintable apparel such as T-shirts, sport shirts and uniforms, will create up to 300 jobs at a fulfillment center it plans to open off of Interstate 35W and Loop 820 in north Fort Worth by the end of the year.
S&S Activewear, based in Bolingbrook, Ill., has leased 493,000 square feet of warehouse and distribution space at 35/820@Mercantile Center from Dallas-based Hunt Southwest Real Estate Development. Hunt Southwest began construction on the 657,000-square-foot facility about a year ago in the southeast quadrant of I-35W and Loop 820.
Frank Myers, S&S’s chief operating officer, said in a statement that the company chose Fort Worth for its labor pool and north Fort Worth for its proximity to a UPS hub nearby.

Brandom Gengelbach, executive vice president of economic development for the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, said S&S’s decision to locate a facility in Fort Worth reinforces the strong labor force and central U.S. location the city offered for logistics and distribution.
The company did not seek city incentives.
“First and foremost, we’re just thrilled,” Gengelbach said. “We’re never going to be disappointed with anyone selecting this community. It’s a great addition. It blazes the tide for all the other businesses in the area.”
S&S Activewear has more than 70 brands from basic garments to fashion styles, including T-shirts, fleece, sport shirts, wovens, hats, bags, performance apparel and uniforms.
This expansion will give S&S Activewear about 2.2 million square feet of distribution space in five facilities, the company said. The privately-held company, founded in 1988, has more than 1,000 employees.
T. Preston Herold, a Hunt Southwest vice president, said in a statement that the S&S Activewear lease is long-term, but did not release details.
“We know Fort Worth is an ideal location for fulfillment and distribution operations, and it is gratifying when companies like S&S Activewear prove it by making such a significant long-term commitment to the area,” Herold said.
Hunt Southwest, a joint venture founded in 2015 between Hunt Midwest Enterprises Inc. and Unity Hunt Inc., is the second real estate development company founded by the Lamar Hunt family, owners of the Kansas City Chiefs. It also has 300,000 of industrial space in Riverbend West in east Fort Worth.
