The owner of downtown Fort Worth’s Reata restaurant was recovering in the hospital Tuesday night, optimistic that he’ll fully recover from being hit by a vehicle near his restaurant.
Mike Micallef was walking with Reata employees about 9:30 a.m. downtown when a wrong-way driver crashed into an SUV at the intersection of Sixth and Throckmorton streets, sending the SUV into pedestrians — the Reata group — at the corner.
Micallef was the only one hospitalized because of the wreck, and he posted on Facebook later Monday that he had a crushed skull and fractured vertebra, among other injuries.
The wrong-way driver was issued citations, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.
Micallef could not be reached for comment Tuesday, but he posted on Facebook that he was recovering, but not sure when he’d be able to go home.
Thousands of well-wishers online have expressed thoughts and prayers for Micallef on social media.
