A 33-year-old Melissa man was arrested Tuesday in the death of his 6-month-old daughter who had been left in a car, authorities reported.
Collin County sheriff’s deputies responding to a 911 call about 1:30 p.m. from the 1400 block of Milrany Lane found the infant unresponsive, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department.
The child’s father, Michael Thedford, was arrested. He faces a manslaughter charge, the news release said. He was being held in the Collin County Jail on Tuesday night with bail set at $20,000.
The department was still investigating and no further details would be provided, the news release said.
KTVT/Channel 11 reported that the infant had been in the car for up to four hours. Temperatures were in the mid-90s across North Texas on Tuesday.
Melissa is about 30 miles north of Dallas in northeast Collin County.
