A video posted Monday captured the dramatic rescue of an unconscious man in a burning SUV by two Mesquite police officers.
Hector Valles, 25, of Mesquite was in Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas Monday night with burns and internal injuries. His SUV crashed early Sunday on the south service road of Interstate 30 and Edgebrook Drive, police said.
Officers arrived at 4:11 a.m. to find Valles in the front seat, unconscious with his clothes covered in fire. Officers Ryan Nielson and Autumn Soto struggled to open the door of the burning vehicle and pulled him out of the car and onto the side of the road.
“Come on, man, stay with us,” the two shouted in the video.
Never miss a local story.
The department’s crash investigation found that Valles was traveling east in the 3100 block of I-30 when he left the roadway and struck a steel pillar.
The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.
