Kathy and David D. Halbert of Colleyville are giving Abilene Christian University $15 million through the Caris Foundation for a science building that honors David’s grandparents, the late Dean and Thelma Walling.
Dean Walling was an ACU trustee from 1976-83 and founding chairman of the National Development Council during Design for Development campaigns that built many iconic buildings on the campus in the 1960s and 1970s, according to a university news release.
The Halberts co-founded the Caris Foundation to provide medical services to impoverished areas of the world. David Halbert was founder of AdvancePCS, one of the country’s largest pharmacy-benefits management companies before he sold it in 2004.
He serves as chair and CEO of Caris Life Sciences.
The university recently received $55 million from three donors to begin a series of construction projects: three new facilities for science programs and two new on-campus stadiums for football, track and field and soccer.
