Arlington firefighters battle salvage yard blaze

Black smoke spewed over southeast Tarrant County Thursday evening after a fire erupted at a salvage yard near the Arlington-Kennedale border.

Firefighters were battling a smoky blaze Thursday evening that apparently began near a salvage yard along the Arlington-Kennedale border.

Black smoke from the fire, which apparently began about 6 p.m., could be seen for miles. More than a dozen cars in the salvage yard could be seen burning in video footage broadcast by North Texas television stations.

The fire appeared to be in a grassy area near All Star Imports and American Auto Parts in the 7700 block of Mansfield Cardinal Road.

Firefighters from both cities were on the scene and continued to battle the blaze at 7:20 p.m.
