An 18-year-old man died late Sunday night after losing control of his sport utility vehicle and hitting a tree in the 1700 block of West Interstate 30 in Arlington, police said.
Jorge Lopez of Fort Worth died at 11:04 p.m. on the freeway’s right of way, Arlington police said. He was eastbound on I-30 when “for some unknown reason” he tried to merge onto the Fielder Road exit ramp, police said in a news release.
Lopez had apparently already passed the normally traveled part of the ramp, police said. He crossed a grassy median, lost control and struck a tree in a yard in the 1700 block of Northaven Court.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe that speed was a factor in the crash, the news release said. Forensic investigators worked at the scene about four hours.
