Longtime Mayor Robert Cluck is expected to spend a few weeks away from City Hall this summer recovering from hip replacement surgery.
Cluck, 75, is scheduled for surgery later this month, city spokeswoman Sana Syed said Thursday.
Mayor Pro Tem Kathryn Wilemon will oversee City Council until Cluck returns.
"Mayor Cluck is passionate about what he does. He says his goal is to get back to work as soon as possible," Syed said in an email to the Star-Telegram.
Cluck, a physician who is vice president for medical affairs at Texas Health Resources Arlington Memorial Hospital, is serving his sixth term as mayor. He said it will be difficult but necessary to step back from city business until he’s back on his feet again.
“It will be hard. That is why I have put this off for so long,” Cluck said. “But I have to do it.”
