More than 2,900 Special Olympics Texas athletes are expected in Arlington this weekend for the 2014 Summer Games at the University of Texas at Arlington and surrounding community venues.
This is the 45th year of the SOTX Summer Games.
Law Enforcement Torch Run officers from across the state officially kicked off the Games by completing the final leg of the torch run Friday.
Special Olympics Texas athletes will compete in track and field, basketball, cycling, gymnastics, soccer and tennis.
The Games also include special events and activities. Friday’s opening ceremony at Maverick Stadium featured the parade of athletes, the reciting of the Athlete Oath and the lighting of the cauldron.
