Arlington police investigate 2-year-old’s death

The boy’s mother told police that she was trying to get him to a hospital when she stopped along East Lamar Street to call for help, police said Thursday.

Authorities are investigating the death of a 2-year-old Arlington boy on Monday, police said Thursday.

Khalil Gilbert was pronounced dead at 1:41 p.m. Monday at Arlington Memorial Hospital, the Tarrant County medical examiner reported.

The child’s mother and boyfriend told officers they were driving the child to a hospital when they stopped in a parking lot in the 800 block of East Lamar Street to call for help, according to a news release from police. When emergency responders arrived, the child was not responsive.

An ambulance took him to the hospital. Medical professionals there told investigators that the child’s death was suspicious.

“We are waiting on the autopsy ... for a clearer understanding of what caused the child’s death,” the news release said. — Staff report
