What started out as a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper stopping to help a motorist on a highway near Wichita Falls ended with the seizure of 1,000 pounds of marijuana headed for Arlington.
A Minnesota man was arrested at the scene.
Authorities identified the man as Jack Solomon Lee, 33, of Saint Paul, Minn.
DPS officials confiscated about $6.1 million worth of marijuana from Lee's vehicle on Jan. 17 after the trooper had stopped to help him.
Never miss a local story.
Authorities said they believe the illegal drugs were being transported from Fresno, Calif. to Arlington.
The seizure occurred about 11:44 a.m. on Jan. 17 on Farm to Market Road 925, just west of U.S. 287 in Wilbarger County. The county is just a few miles northwest of Wichita Falls.
After the officer stopped and talked to the motorist, who had pulled over to the side of the road, the trooper believed the man was involved in criminal activity. The trooper called for a drug-sniffing dog with the Wichita County Sheriff's Office.
The canine alerted on the vehicle and a trailer.
Troopers found vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana in the trailer.
