An Arlington woman was sentenced to a total of five years in prison on Wednesday for making sexually explicit videos involving a young child in Ellis County.
Miranda Renea Kelso, 25, was sentenced by a jury to two years in prison for indecency with a child by exposure and three years for indecency with a child by contact, according to a news release from the Ellis County district attorney’s office.
Kelso was charged in the case in May 2016.
In one of the videos, Kelso caused the child, who was younger than 5, to touch her breast, the news release said. In another video, Kelso was seen masturbating while the child was inches away from her.
Kelso blamed the videos on domestic violence, claiming she was coerced into making the videos with the child. Evidence at trial showed that Kelso practiced sadomasochism and that her alleged abuser was “nowhere near the scene of her crime,” the news release said.
In a statement, Ellis County District Attorney Patrick Wilson called Kelso’s domestic violence defense an “outrageous and offensive claim.”
“To claim domestic violence as a shield against child molestation is disrespectful to the real victim in this case and to all victims of domestic violence,” Wilson said in the statement.
