Girls basketball

The Bowie girls basketball team is closing in on a perfect run through district, entering the week 11-0 before its Tuesday game against North Crowley, which was played after the press deadline.

The last major hurdle between the Lady Vols and perfection is likely to be Friday's game, when Bowie hosts Lamar at 6 p.m.

• The Lady Vikings entered this week with an 8-3 record in 3-5A and could enter their last game of the season, Feb. 4 hosting Martin, in a deadlock with the Lady Warriors for second place.
• Martin played Fort Worth Paschal on Tuesday and will host North Crowley at 6 p.m. Friday before the Feb. 4 finale.

Boys basketball

The Bowie boys also entered the week perfect in 3-5A at 9-0 before Tuesday's game against North Crowley. After that, big matches for the Vols will include hosting Lamar (6-3 entering this week) at 7:30 p.m. Friday and the Feb. 11 rematch with Martin, which entered this week at 8-1.

• Martin also has its second district game against the Vikings looming, as they'll face Lamar on the road on Feb. 4. If the Warriors can come out on top in that one, they stand an excellent chance of playing the Feb. 11 finale at Bowie for at least a share of the district title.
