The Bowie girls basketball team entered the week tied for first place and still perfect in district with a 5-0 record, getting ready to face fellow district leader and undefeated team Lamar on Tuesday before hosting Sam Houston on Friday.
The Lady Vols picked up a 42-25 victory over North Crowley last Friday in their first district game since the holiday break. Emerald Mayfield led the scoring with 15 points, followed by Jazmine Holman's 11.
• Lamar downed Sam Houston last Friday 64-31, their third consecutive victory since losing 47-42 to Mansfield in the Spring Creek Invitational on Dec. 27.
Symone Willis led the Lady Vikings in scoring with 16 points, while Dezirae Hampton and Jada Washington each chipped in 10.
Lamar visits Martin at 6 p.m. Friday after their game against Bowie on Tuesday.
Much like their girls counterparts, the Bowie and Lamar boys basketball teams are perfect in district with 3-0 records and meet in an important match on Tuesday.
Bowie hosts Sam Houston at 7:30 p.m. Friday, while Lamar will take on Martin on the road at the same time.
• Martin is also 3-0 in the district standings after a 57-44 victory over Fort Worth Paschal last Friday.
In a balanced scoring effort, Nick Babb led with 15 points, while Josh Swearingin had 12 and Andrew Dotson had 11.
Martin meets last year's district champ North Crowley on Tuesday before their game with Lamar on Friday.
